Why a Book About Soccer?
Are you part of the millions of Americans that did not play soccer growing up and have not spent years watching and learning the sport? All over this country, parents, volunteer coaches, assistants, referees, families and fans are involved in youth soccer, without having decades or generations of experience with the game. Are you spending your Saturdays and Sundays at the soccer field? Are your kids falling in love with this game? Would you like to know more about soccer? Would you like to be more confident about what to say to your young player on the way home from a game and in the backyard when you are kicking the ball around? Would you like to be better prepared and informed as a volunteer coach, assistant, referee or fan? Do you agree that when we develop a better understanding of things that are somewhat new to us, it can be a lot more fun?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this book was written for you. Don’t Just Kick It will not make you an expert, but it will show you how to contribute to the development of your young soccer player.
Don’t Just Kick It is not intended to be a lengthy journal of anything and everything you would ever want to know about soccer. It is not the history of the game, hundreds of drills and techniques, or how to get your kid a college scholarship. There are lots of books out there that cover these topics and they serve a good purpose. In our view, they explain soccer by providing a level of detail that is more than most of us need or want to know, or have time to read and digest. We want everyone to be able to read this book in less than ninety minutes and be able to refer to it often.
